The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is one of the most important steps you take on your path to college.

$  Every student who plans to attend college should complete the FAFSA!

$
Did you know that 9 out of 10 students who complete the FAFSA will enroll in college?And 72% of the students who complete the FAFSA will stay in school and not drop out?This one step significantly increases the odds that you will succeed in college, so why would you skip it??

$
Students should apply for aid even if they and their parents don't think they'll be eligible. There is no income cut-off to qualify for federal student aid. Many factors besides income—from the size of your family to the age of your older parent—are taken into account. Your eligibility is determined by a mathematical formula, not by your parents’ income alone.

$  Completing the FAFSA makes you eligible for grants, scholarships, and loans from not only the federal government, but also from state funds as well as institutional funds from your chosen college or university.

$  In fact, some schools and private funders won’t even consider you for any of their scholarships (including academic scholarships) until you’ve submitted a FAFSA. Don’t make assumptions about what you’ll get— fill out the application and find out.

$  Even if the assistance a student receives is nothing more than an unsubsidized loan, the interest rate on the loan may be less than what they would pay on a private loan.

$
You don’t have to be top of your class to get financial aid.While a high grade point average will help a student get into a good school and may help with academic scholarships, most of the federal student aid programs do not take a student’s grades into consideration. Provided a student maintains satisfactory academic progress in his or her program of study, federal student aid will help a student with an average academic record complete his or her education.
